Manipura – The Solar Plexus Chakra
The Manipura Chakra (Sanskrit: मणिपूर, “city of jewels”) is the third of the seven main chakras. It is located in the solar plexus region, between the navel and the chest, and is associated with the color yellow.
Its core theme is power, self-confidence, and inner guidance.
Manipura is regarded as the seat of personal fire (Agni) and represents determination, willpower, and the ability to act with clarity and courage. When in balance, Manipura provides vitality, confidence, and a healthy balance between activity and relaxation.
When out of balance, Manipura may manifest as overexertion, the need to control, anger, or on the other hand as lack of motivation and low self-esteem. Physically, it is traditionally linked with the stomach, liver, pancreas, digestion, and metabolism.
Practices to strengthen this chakra include dynamic yoga postures (such as sun salutations and twists), breathing techniques like Kapalabhati or “breath of fire,” and meditations focused on inner light. Working with the color yellow, sunlight, and chanting the mantra “RAM” are also considered supportive.
Manipura is the source of our personal strength. When balanced, it allows us to act with confidence, pursue goals with clarity, and remain steady in both power and peace.
