Oregano

Oregano, Wilder Majoran, Origan sauvage, Orégano silvestre, Origanum vulgare, -

Oregano (Origanum vulgare) originates from the Mediterranean region. The plant is known for its strong aroma, used both fresh and dried. In Western herbalism, oregano is commonly used as a spice for pizza, pasta, meat dishes, and sauces, and is considered mildly antibacterial and digestive-supporting. Folk medicine applications include supporting respiratory health, digestion, and mild infections. In Ayurveda, oregano is warming and mildly pungent, can pacify Vata, balance Pitta, and reduce Kapha. Leaves are the main part used for culinary and medicinal purposes; flowers are less commonly used.
