Cloves
Cloves, Nelken, Clous de girofle, Clavos, Syzygium aromaticum, Lavanga (लवंग)
Cloves are the aromatic unopened flower buds of Syzygium aromaticum, native to the Maluku Islands (Indonesia). In Ayurveda, Lavanga is valued for its pungent, heating qualities that stimulate Agni (digestive fire), improve circulation, and relieve Kapha and Vata stagnation. Historically, cloves have been used as a spice, preservative, and in traditional medicine for mild digestive discomfort, toothache, and respiratory support. They are highly aromatic and often used in spice blends, teas, and cooking.
Its warmth and pungency stimulate digestion and reduce cold, stagnant Vata.
Strong heating; may aggravate Pitta if overused.
