Black sesame (Sesamum indicum) seeds are tiny, oil-rich seeds with a nutty flavor and warming effect. In Ayurveda, they are highly valued for their ability to strengthen bones, hair, and skin, and to nourish the body’s tissues (Dhatus). They are particularly beneficial for Vata imbalances due to their oily, grounding qualities. Black sesame seeds are also used to support digestion, promote vitality, and maintain healthy circulation. Roasting enhances their aroma and makes the oils more digestible.

Neutral effect; can be included in moderation without aggravating Pitta.
