Coconut Oil
Coconut oil, Kokosnussöl, Huile de coco, Aceite de coco, Cocos nucifera, Nariyalataila (नारियालतैल)
Coconut oil is extracted from the mature kernel of the coconut and is known in Ayurveda for its cooling, moisturizing, and pacifying qualities. Traditionally used both internally and externally, it is particularly suited to balance excess Pitta due to its soothing effect on inflammation and heat. In cooking, it supports Agni without aggravating Pitta, and when applied to the skin or scalp, it calms irritation and dryness. Its high content of medium-chain fatty acids supports energy and metabolism. However, due to its heavy and cooling nature, it may aggravate Kapha when used excessively or by individuals with sluggish digestion.
Used in moderation, coconut oil helps lubricate and soothe dry Vata skin, though it should be warmed before use.
Highly beneficial for Pitta types, coconut oil cools the body, reduces inflammation, and soothes sensitive skin and digestion.
Kapha types should use coconut oil sparingly, as its heavy and cold qualities may increase sluggishness and congestion.
